Even in Iran they are convinced: Ahmadinejad was not a Mossad plant

Nezam al-Din Mousavi, a former Iranian parliament member, rejects claims that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spied for Israel, despite reports of alleged Israeli funding for his travels and stays abroad. Mousavi argues it is unlikely for someone of his stature to be a spy without the knowledge of security mechanisms, and warns against relying on foreign publications without clear sources.

Nezam al-Din Mousavi, a former Iranian parliament member, rejected claims that former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spied for Israel. This comes despite reports that Israeli sources allegedly funded some of his travels and stays abroad. Mousavi said, "It is unlikely that a person of such stature would be a spy, while security mechanisms simply stand aside and watch." According to him, although he was a sharp critic of Ahmadinejad, he never received information or reports from Iran's security bodies about an active espionage case against him. He described the claim as "an accusation that does not fit" and warned against relying on foreign publications without clear sources. Ahmadinejad's office at the time completely denied the publication, calling it "Hollywood claims" and "fake news." Media outlets covering the story also noted that no documents, recordings, or other evidence were presented to the public to independently verify the claim. Mousavi also pointed out that although the Guardian Council disqualified Ahmadinejad's candidacy in the presidential elections, he continues to be a member of the Expediency Discernment Council, indicating that the establishment still sees him as someone within the framework of the Islamic Republic. Ahmadinejad served as Iran's president from 2005 to 2013 and is considered one of the harshest anti-Israel voices in the Iranian leadership. The affair has returned to the center of Iranian discourse amid the internal debate over the extent of Israeli infiltration into the security and political elite.
