Egypt rejects displacement plans

An informed Egyptian source affirmed Cairo's categorical rejection of calls for the forced displacement of Gaza Strip residents or talk of their resettlement, stressing that Egypt will not be a party to any such plans. The response came in rejection of statements by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who threatened Sinai, describing them as empty threats.

An informed Egyptian source confirmed on Wednesday Cairo's categorical rejection of calls for the forced displacement of Gaza Strip residents or talk of their resettlement, stressing that Egypt will not be a party to any such plans under any circumstances. The source said these calls come amid the Israeli occupation's path aimed at destroying the foundations of life in the Gaza Strip and making them nearly impossible, thereby pushing Palestinians to displacement and targeting their cause. In this context, the source categorically rejected dragging the name of the Sinai Peninsula into the recent statements by Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, describing them as "empty threats" and an attempt to achieve electoral goals through escalatory and inciting rhetoric. He explained that these statements, which coincided with the Egyptian people's celebrations of the 53rd anniversary of the October War victories, do not change Egypt's ability to protect its territorial sovereignty, maintain its national independence, and ensure its security against any dangers or threats. The source stressed the Egyptian state's rejection of using its land or name in internal Israeli political bidding and bargaining, affirming Cairo's continued firm positions based on respect for sovereignty and rejection of interference in the internal affairs of states.
