Due to cancellation of engagement: Murder indictment against two East Jerusalem residents

The State Prosecutor's Office today (Sunday) submitted to the Jerusalem District Court an indictment against Abed Odeh, a resident of Silwan in East Jerusalem, for the murder of Hussein Dar Issa and shooting at his brother, and against Islam Alkram, a resident of Issawiya, for obstruction of justice and aiding after the fact. The background to the incident, which occurred on the night of June 29, is a conflict that developed following the cancellation of the engagement of the victim's sister with Mustafa Abu Kalbin and subsequent offensive publications on social media. According to the indictment, on the night of the murder, the victim and his brother Hassan arrived at a meeting point in Silwan. Shortly after, Mustafa, another person, and the two defendants arrived. Mustafa attacked the victim with kicks and brandished a knife at him. When Hassan tried to help, Mustafa also attempted to stab him. Subsequently, Odeh shot at Hassan, hitting him in the leg. After the victim began to flee, Odeh shot at his upper body from a distance of about 11 meters, intending to kill him. The victim died from the shooting. Alkram removed a spent cartridge from the scene. The two were on the run for about two months until they were arrested on August 30 in a hideout apartment in Hebron. Odeh is charged with premeditated murder, aggravated assault, and carrying and transporting a weapon. Alkram is charged with obstruction of justice, aiding after the fact, and driving without a license.
