Dozens killed in attack in Ukraine – a day after the ceasefire expired
A Russian attack on a humanitarian aid distribution point in Zaporizhzhia left 40 dead and dozens missing, a day after a local US-brokered ceasefire expired. Zelenskyy accused Russia of a double strike on a school that served as a shelter.
Dozens were killed in a deadly Russian attack on a humanitarian aid distribution point in the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region of southeastern Ukraine. The death toll rose to 40 people, with dozens more still listed as missing. The attack occurred just one day after a short local ceasefire brokered by the United States expired, and less than a week before the US is expected to bring together delegations from Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi for talks on ending the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described how Russian forces first dropped aerial bombs on an underground school building that served as a distribution point, and then struck the shelter with additional bombs. The aid organization World Central Kitchen (WCK) confirmed that the facility hit was used as a humanitarian center. In response, the Russian command ministry claimed that the attack was aimed at Ukrainian military units. Among the dead are two rescuers and four police officers.
