An i24NEWS investigation exposes the figure of Neville Roy Singham, an American software entrepreneur operating from Shanghai, who is at the center of a criminal investigation in the US. Authorities are examining a dark money network totaling between $110 and $285 million, accused of injecting propaganda aligned with the Chinese government's line into progressive movements in the West. Singham, the son of a Marxist thinker from Sri Lanka, joined far-left groups in Detroit in the 1970s. He founded the consulting firm Thoughtworks, sold it in 2017 for about $800 million, and moved to Shanghai. According to the investigation, he used a Goldman Sachs philanthropic fund to disguise his identity and funneled money through a network of shell organizations to groups like Code Pink and The People's Forum. These organizations, which received tens of millions from him, organized violent protests against Israel after October 7 and provided ideological and logistical support to justify terrorism by Hamas and Hezbollah. The criminal investigation by a federal grand jury in New York is examining suspicions of bank fraud, tax offenses, and violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The US Congress has issued subpoenas to his organizations. The investigation notes that the funds are transferred through tax-exempt charitable organizations, so the American taxpayer indirectly subsidizes the mechanism.
