Criticism in Lebanon over the delegation to the UN: "They left Netanyahu's speech so as not to anger Hezbollah"
A Lebanese political source opposed to Hezbollah told Kan News that the Lebanese delegation walked out of the UN General Assembly hall during Netanyahu's speech to avoid angering Hezbollah. The delegation also held an unusual meeting with the President of Iran, and the source criticized the meeting, saying it gives Iran legitimacy to intervene in Lebanon.
A Lebanese political source, belonging to the camp opposed to Hezbollah, told Kan News that the Lebanese delegation to the UN General Assembly left the hall during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech in order not to anger Hezbollah. The same source reported that the delegation also held an unusual meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the assembly, questioning its purpose: "These meetings with the Iranians only give them legitimacy to continue intervening in Lebanon, contrary to the line the leadership is pursuing. What benefit is there in this?" It was further reported that the Lebanese conduct occurs against a backdrop of political stagnation, following the upcoming elections in Israel and the midterm elections in the United States. Netanyahu spoke at the assembly two days ago, and dozens of representatives left as he entered. At the start of his remarks, he said: "If there are any more cowards here who haven't left yet, please, leave now." It was also published that Lebanon requested to postpone the round of negotiations with Israel planned for Rome, against the backdrop of IDF activity on the Ali Taher ridge.
