Class action settlement: Menora will compensate policyholders who suffered heart attacks and were rejected by the company

The Central-Lod District Court approved a settlement in a class action lawsuit against Menora Mivtachim. The lawsuit dealt with the rejection of policyholders' claims for compensation for acute heart attacks, alleging that the company relied on outdated medical threshold values. Under the settlement, eligible policyholders will receive 90% of the nominal insurance amount and, in certain cases, premium refunds.

The Central-Lod District Court yesterday (Monday, October 12, 2026) approved a settlement in a class action lawsuit against Menora Mivtachim Insurance. The lawsuit, filed over the rejection of claims by policyholders seeking compensation for acute heart attacks, alleged that the company relied on medical definitions and threshold values set in the Insurance Supervisor's circulars from 2013 and 2015. According to the disputed definitions, a diagnosis of a heart attack required support from a biochemical test indicating a troponin level of 1 ng/ml or higher. The plaintiff argued that despite advances in diagnostic methods, the company continued to rely on the old threshold values, leading to the rejection of claims by policyholders diagnosed with heart attacks. Under the settlement, eligible policyholders will be entitled to 90% of the nominal insurance amount, and in appropriate cases, also to premium refunds. The company committed not to reject claims based solely on a troponin value below 1 ng/ml, but to evaluate them according to criteria commonly used in hospitals. The group defined in the settlement includes policyholders who had coverage for serious illnesses, approached the company, and had their claims rejected, among other reasons, based on the troponin condition. The main period is from July 22, 2021, to March 9, 2026.
