Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed that communication is ongoing.

China announced on Wednesday that it is in contact with the United States and Russia to arrange a potential summit between the three presidents: Xi Jinping, Donald Trump, and Vladimir Putin, on the sidelines of a regional meeting it is hosting later this month. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said in a press conference that 'China is in communication with the relevant parties regarding a meeting between the presidents of China, Russia, and the United States.' The Kremlin had announced on October 21 that it is 'preparing' for a meeting that would be the first of its kind between the three leaders. Xi and Trump have met twice this year, including the Chinese president's visit to the White House in September. They are scheduled to meet again during the G20 summit hosted by Miami in December. Trump last met Putin in Alaska in August 2025. Xi and Putin have met dozens of times, most recently in May when the Russian president visited Beijing. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned last month that a trilateral summit could pave the way for a redistribution of influence.
