Oncologist and medical director of the Prague Proton Therapy Center Jiří Kubeš warns that melanoma can develop on areas of the body that a person almost never examines. The article lists seven risk zones: the scalp (hidden by hair), ears and the skin behind them, the back and shoulders (especially between the shoulder blades), skin folds and the area under the breasts, the buttocks and groin area, the back of the legs and the popliteal fossae, as well as the feet, the spaces between the toes, and the nails. It is emphasized that the absence of tanning or sunburn on an area does not exclude risk. When checking moles, doctors pay attention to asymmetry, irregular edges, uneven color, enlargement, and changes over time. Itching, bleeding, or a long-healing skin lesion can also be reasons to consult a doctor. The article is informational and educational in nature and contains no commercial elements.
