Tesla to phase out Cybertruck production by mid-2027, shift to Cybercab
Tesla will gradually end Cybertruck production at its Texas plant by mid-2027, citing weak sales of about 20,000 units annually. The company will redirect resources to develop the Cybercab autonomous robotaxi.
Tesla will gradually reduce and cease production of the Cybertruck at its Texas plant by mid-2027. The move, announced by CEO Elon Musk, stems from weak sales of about 20,000 units in the US over the past year—a drop of roughly 48% compared to 2024. Since its launch in 2023, the Cybertruck has suffered 11 recalls and a regulatory barrier in Europe. Tesla will redirect its resources to developing the Cybercab, an autonomous robotaxi that has yet to prove itself commercially and is undergoing regulatory testing. Former Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer was quoted saying, "There is no logic in continuing when you don't meet targets; the data speaks for itself."
