Haifa police arrested a new suspect in the violent attack on George Abu Shakara, 76, owner of a falafel stand in the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood of Haifa, who was severely assaulted on his way to work last Saturday. The suspect, Ido Shaul, 25, from the Givat Zemer neighborhood on Mount Carmel, was arrested after being identified in security camera footage. His remand was extended by four days at the Haifa Magistrate's Court, despite his attorney's request for release. Earlier, another suspect, Gilad Hildesheim, was arrested but released after denying any involvement in the incident. Abu Shakara recounted that two men chased him, struck him on the head with a stick, and continued beating him even after he fell. He was treated at Rambam Hospital and released, but has difficulty walking and cannot return to work. In the neighborhood, allegations of a racist motive have arisen, and police noted indications of intoxication and ethnic background, but the investigation continues.
