Amnesty International: Palestinians Do Not Expect Positive Change After Israeli Elections
Amnesty International warned that Palestinians do not expect positive changes after the Israeli elections, pointing to hostile election rhetoric and threats to expand the occupation and escalate violations in the West Bank and Gaza. It called for pressure on Israel by banning arms sales and suspending the association agreement.
Amnesty International warned that Palestinians do not expect positive changes in human rights after the Israeli parliamentary elections scheduled for next Tuesday. Erika Guevara Rosas, the organization's director of research, advocacy and global policy, said in a statement published on Saturday that Israeli voters are being subjected to anti-Palestinian rhetoric, in addition to threats to escalate violations that constitute crimes under international law for political gain. The organization confirmed the continuation of rhetoric that demonizes Palestinians during election campaigns, promises to expand the occupation in the occupied West Bank, and threats to increase destruction in the Gaza Strip, which has been suffering a genocide for three years. It also stated that Israel continues to displace Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, alongside the continued killing of Palestinians in Gaza despite a year having passed since what it described as a "purported ceasefire," expanding restricted areas and postponing reconstruction indefinitely. Amnesty International called for pressure on Israel, including banning arms sales and suspending the association agreement.
