Russia attacked Kyiv and other regions in Ukraine overnight (Thursday) with ballistic missiles and drones, hours after the Kremlin announced its agreement in principle to resume US-mediated talks to end the war. At least four people were killed and 34 wounded, including five children, according to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and President Zelensky. Zelensky accused Russia of not taking steps indicating a genuine desire to end the war. Ukraine reported at least 21 ballistic missiles launched toward Kyiv in three waves, three of them with cluster warheads. Meanwhile, the mayor of Moscow reported 630 drones heading toward the Russian capital, and the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that 808 drones were intercepted. The attacks came after Russian President Putin met with US envoy Witkoff and agreed in principle to resume trilateral talks after November 10, about a week after the US midterm elections. Zelensky supported the American proposal to hold the meeting as soon as possible and declared support for a general ceasefire and humanitarian initiatives.
