Against the backdrop of elections: How the education system will mark 31 years since the assassination of Rabin tomorrow
The Ministry of Education has instructed schools to mark 31 years since the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin, with an emphasis on respectful discourse during disagreement, and special guidelines for the election period due to concerns about political tension entering classrooms. All students are required to participate in the activities.
Memorial events marking 31 years since the assassination of Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin began last night with the state youth rally at the Yitzhak Rabin Center in Tel Aviv, under the title "In times of disagreement - argue responsibly." The rally was attended by Education Minister Yoav Kisch, Director General Meir Shimoni, the Rabin family, and student representatives. The memorial day in the education system will be observed today, centered on the question of how to manage disagreements while maintaining respectful discourse. The Ministry of Education issued special guidelines for observing the day during an election period, fearing that political disputes would seep into classrooms. The Director General's circular emphasized that students may bring positions from home and from social media, and that discussions may arouse strong emotions. The program aims to foster the ability to bear disagreement and manage disputes responsibly. All students are required to participate in activities and civics lessons. The Ministry of Education recommends holding school ceremonies and engaging with Rabin's legacy and the importance of democracy. In state-religious and Haredi schools, reciting Psalms can be incorporated. Additionally, dialogue circles and meetings between different groups in Israeli society will be held.
