HBO has announced the return of the series "Girls" for five new episodes, nearly a decade after its conclusion in 2017. Creator Lena Dunham will reunite with the original cast members – Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet – as well as Andrew Rannells, who will return as Elijah. Filming is set to begin in 2027, and the new episodes will focus on the characters' lives around age 40. The announcement was accompanied by a humorous video in which Dunham jokes about their age and the series' title. Dunham explained that the return was contingent on finding a story that justified it, and that inspiration came ahead of her 40th birthday. Adam Driver, who played Adam, has not yet confirmed his participation. Judd Apatow will return as executive producer. The original series, which aired from 2012 to 2017, became a cultural phenomenon and garnered 19 Emmy nominations.
