The Jerusalem Municipality inaugurated a road named after the late Haim Gouri, Israel Prize laureate, Palmach member, poet, writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker, as part of the celebrations for 60 years since the reunification of Jerusalem. The choice of a "road" in the veteran Arnona neighborhood was intended to weave his life, work and character into the history of the state and of Jerusalem. Gouri fought as a commander and fighter in the Six-Day War and was among the liberators of the city. His deep connection to Jerusalem was woven from the days of the 1948 war, and his poems such as "Bab al-Wad" and "Shir HaRe'ut" became cultural cornerstones. Mayor Moshe Lion noted that Gouri was a pillar of the Israeli and Jerusalem spirit, and that the road will acquaint future generations with the love of the land, humility, comradeship and ethics of warfare he left as a life testament.
