ZIM reports solid results as sale remains on hold

ZIM Integrated Shipping Services reported a net profit of $64 million in the second quarter of 2026, a significant improvement from the $24 million profit in the same quarter of 2025 and a recovery from the $86 million net loss in the preceding quarter. Revenue reached $1.78 billion, up 8.9% from the corresponding quarter last year and 27.6% from the previous quarter. The company transported 922,000 containers, with an average freight rate of $1,590, up from $1,310 in the prior quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $491 million, and operating activities generated $395 million. Net debt stood at $2.77 billion at the end of the quarter. The sale of the company to Hapag-Lloyd remains pending regulatory approvals, with both parties continuing to fulfill their obligations. New CEO Chen Lichtenstein, who assumed the role in July, stated his focus on capitalizing on market opportunities and deploying resources with discipline. CFO Sami Jubran expressed expectations for stronger performance in the remainder of the year, which could enable the board to consider a dividend. Despite the solid results, ZIM's share price fell 4.70% on the NYSE, giving a market cap of $3.272 billion.
