Zehava Shaul, mother of Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul who was killed in Operation Protective Edge in 2014, was laid to rest today (Sunday) at the cemetery in Poria Illit. Shaul, who passed away at age 71 last Friday, led a public and personal struggle for over a decade to bring her son's body for burial in Israel. In January 2025, in a covert operation by Shayetet 13, Intelligence units, 162nd Division, and the General Security Service, Oron Shaul's body was recovered. Shaul was buried next to the graves of her husband Hertzel and her son Oron. Her sons, Ofek and Aviram, eulogized her tearfully. Ofek said: "You fought for ten and a half years to bring back your son - you didn't deserve this." Aviram thanked God that she merited to see Oron return home and to be a grandmother.
