"You're a clown": The stormy reception for Ben Gvir in the north | Footage
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir visited the village of Basmat Tab'un in the north and was met with insults and jeers from residents who called him a "clown" and a "terrorist." The visit comes amid two other incidents of criticism of the police: a break-in at a wedding in Umm al-Fahm and the detention of a groom and bride in the south. Ben Gvir responded to the wedding incident, saying: "We are putting an end to the wild wedding convoys in the Negev."
National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir arrived today (Tuesday) for a visit to the village of Basmat Tab'un in the north, and received a stormy reception from the residents. In a video published, residents are seen shouting insults at him, including "You're a clown," "Champion of failure," and "Terrorist." One resident even called him "a minister convicted of terrorism" and told him "go to a mental hospital." The visit comes amid two other incidents in which harsh criticism was voiced against Ben Gvir and the police. Earlier this week, residents in Umm al-Fahm claimed that police forces broke into a wedding in the city and ordered guests to lie on the floor. The police explained that the operation was carried out following suspicion of use of weapons. In another case, a groom and bride from the south were detained for questioning after their wedding convoy disrupted traffic, according to the police. The groom and his father accused Ben Gvir of "doing a number on them." Ben Gvir responded to the groom and bride incident and said: "We are putting an end to the wild wedding convoys in the Negev and to shooting weddings that endanger lives. They will keep chattering and I will keep working."
