Yahli provides new details about his kidnapping: "The suspect took him to a shelter - and the 10-year-old escaped"

The court extended the arrest of the suspect in the kidnapping of 10-year-old Yahli Sofer by five days. A police representative stated that the boy provided new details this week that strengthen the suspicions, including that the suspect took him to a shelter from which he fled. The suspect is also suspected in two additional cases of harming children, involving harassment, threats, and possession of a knife.

The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court extended the arrest of the suspect in the kidnapping of ten-year-old Yahli Sofer, a 19-year-old homeless man from Jerusalem, by an additional five days. During the hearing, Judge Oren Boaz authorized the publication of the suspect's name, but defense attorney Noam Gutman obtained a stay of execution to appeal the decision. A police representative reported that this week Yahli provided investigators with new details he had not given in the initial investigation, including that the suspect took him to a shelter and the 10-year-old fled from there, with the suspect chasing him. A citizen identified the boy and alerted the police. It was also reported that the suspect is suspected in two additional cases of harming children: in one, harassment and threats against two girls whom the suspect knew where they lived and waited for them under their building; in another, possession of a knife and threats. The judge wrote in his decision that the suspicion of kidnapping remains at a high level and the evidentiary basis has strengthened, and that a confession in another complaint was presented, solidifying reasonable suspicion.
