Yaffa Ben David warns: The education system is short about 5,000 teachers

Ben David emphasized that salary is an important component but not the only solution, and that there is a need for integrated treatment including improving teachers' status, working conditions, dealing with violence, the special education law, and parental intervention. She criticized the Ministry of Finance for what she says determines education policy, and called for the establishment of a national-public council to formulate a strategic plan independent of any particular minister. Ben David also addressed classroom overcrowding and the lack of training, noting that bringing unqualified people into the system is a problem in itself. She called on parents to show respect to education staff in order to retain quality teachers in the system.
