Experts warn of extremely high risks: American troops could come under missile and drone attacks, and the difficult terrain (mountains, deserts, vast distances) would complicate advancement and supply. An analysis by the US Naval Institute notes that mountain passes are easily blocked, and sandy and salt flat areas create obstacles for armored vehicles.
