Why the Iranian regime is only hardening its positions – opinion

Professor Uzi Rabi told 103fm that the Iranian regime is not compromising despite economic pressure, with power concentrated in the hands of the IRGC. He believes the regime's main enemy is its own people, and figures like Pezeshkian are merely a facade. Gulf Arab monarchies are reviewing security, doubting the 'American umbrella'.

Professor Uzi Rabi of the Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University told radio station 103fm that the Iranian regime, despite Western economic pressure, is not compromising and is hardening its positions. In his view, real power in Iran is increasingly concentrated in the hands of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Rabi believes the regime's main enemy is its own people, and therefore security forces that suppress internal dissent are promoted to key positions. He also pointed to a gap between officials negotiating with the West and the real centers of decision-making, calling figures such as Masoud Pezeshkian and Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf a facade. Against this backdrop, Arab Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar, are reviewing their security policies and doubting the reliability of the 'American umbrella', fearing that even a weakened Iran could paralyze their economies.
