The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court today (Wednesday) extended by eight more days the detention of Omri Peretz and Maxim Barberman, two friends of Eldar Dayan suspected of murder. The police requested ten days, but the court ruled that the two will remain in custody until August 19. The investigation is not yet complete, and the police are awaiting the final opinion of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, expected in about a week and a half. The defense attacked the police request, with attorney Coral Siboni, representing Barberman, raising a central question: how is it possible that the body was found only after repeated searches, if at least four searches were conducted in the area? She hinted that the body may have been dumped at a later stage, and the police confirmed that the issue is being examined. Attorney Chen Baruch, representing Peretz, argued that if her client is a cooperating witness, his detention should not be extended. The suspects claim that after a brawl with a group of youths, they fled from the police and lost Dayan. They say that Dayan was exhausted, entered a convenience store in Kfar Saba, and then they split up. They deny any connection to his death. The police claim that Peretz's version is inconsistent with some of the evidence, and that during the investigation he exercised his right to remain silent in 28 instances. Additionally, there are additional videos that have not yet been shown to him.
