While many are spending the summer days in air conditioning or on vacation, waste criminals exploited the quiet in open areas and dumped huge piles of construction waste in the heart of Nahshon Forest in central Israel. KKL-JNF foresters located about 40 cubic meters of waste, including bags, sheets, metal parts, and plastic, which were likely brought to the site by three trucks and unloaded among the forest trees, in an area with dry vegetation and pine trees. KKL warns of environmental damage: soil contamination, harm to animals, and an increased fire risk during the hot season. The incident occurs shortly after the approval of the law regulating construction waste treatment, which aims to reduce the phenomenon through tracking trucks and registering businesses, but it is expected to take effect only in about a year and a half. KKL Chairman Ayal Ostrynsky condemned the act as "blatant and unrestrained environmental crime" and called for a swift investigation, determined enforcement, and severe punishment. KKL calls on the public to continue reporting waste hazards in open areas.
