Which foods are most harmful to your heart
Cardiologist Pablo Canepa named the foods most harmful to the heart: red meat, processed foods, pastries, breakfast cereals, energy drinks, cream, butter, salt, and alcohol. He recommends the Mediterranean diet, 45 minutes of physical activity per day, and giving up bad habits.
Cardiologist Pablo Canepa, in an interview with the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia, listed the foods that cause the most damage to the cardiovascular system. First of all, he recommends at least 45 minutes of physical activity daily, giving up bad habits, and switching to a Mediterranean diet rich in vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, fish, and olive oil. Red meat is particularly dangerous due to saturated fats that raise 'bad' cholesterol levels. The doctor advises replacing it with lean meat, such as chicken, and saturated fats with healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats from nuts, seeds, avocado, and olive oil. Canepa warns against processed foods, pastries, and breakfast cereals containing trans fats, as well as non-alcoholic energy drinks with high doses of caffeine and sugar. He recommends reducing consumption of cream, butter, and salt to control blood pressure, and completely avoiding alcohol, which increases the risk of heart attack and other complications.
