Wheelchair Basketball: A Moving Initiative in Yavne

Kfir Neimark, an IDF wounded veteran and coach of a player in the Premier League for wheelchair basketball, held a training session for students of the 'Navon' school in Yavne. He shared his story of injury, taught them the game, and conveyed a message about willpower and perseverance. He told them about his injury that led him to the court with a wheelchair, and taught them how to play. Afterwards, he let them try the game on their own, and delivered an inspiring message: "The injury changed my life but it did not define me." He emphasized willpower, perseverance, and the choice to cope, saying: "Through sports, I rediscovered my strength." Neimark brought professional wheelchairs, explained the rules of the game, and allowed the students to experience it. Mayor Roy Gabay supported encouraging such activities, saying: "The values we seek to instill in the youth of Yavne are expressed precisely in this kind of activity." Sports Department Director Shaul David believes it is a first-rate educational tool, saying: "When you get into a wheelchair, you immediately understand how much ability, professionalism, and determination these athletes require."
