What Anthropic seeks in Israel's Decart

Anthropic, the company behind the AI assistant Claude, is set to acquire Israeli startup Decart, according to a Bloomberg report. The deal, estimated at five or six billion dollars, would be Anthropic's first in Israel. Decart, founded in 2023 by Dean Leitersdorf and Moshe Shalev, develops graphic models for gaming and 3D, and an optimization engine to improve processing efficiency. Investors include Zeev Ventures, Sequoia, Benchmark, and others.

Decart, founded in 2023 by Dr. Dean Leitersdorf (CEO) and Moshe Shalev (CPO) and based in Tel Aviv, develops graphic language models for gaming and 3D, as well as an optimization engine that improves the efficiency of training and testing models on various processors, including Nvidia, Google's TPU, and Amazon's Trainium. The deal is estimated at five or six billion dollars. The founders realized they needed to sell due to unstable revenue from their main product. Investors include Oren Zeev's Zeev Ventures, Tilli Kalisky-Bannett, Sequoia, Benchmark, Andrej Karpathy, Michael Eisenberg through Aleph VC, and Yossi Sariel. The synergy lies in Anthropic's market share in coding and Decart's effectiveness in robotics and physical AI, which could help Anthropic compete with X.ai and Google's DeepMind.
