An indictment was filed today (Monday) against a resident of Segev Shalom in his 20s, suspected of trying to dispose of an M-16 assault rifle when police arrived to conduct a search of his home. According to the indictment, the incident occurred on July 30, when officers from the Segev Shalom station and fighters from the Yoav unit arrived at a home in neighborhood 3 of the town. As the forces arrived, the suspect went up to the roof carrying the weapon wrapped in plastic wrap, and threw it over the fence into a neighbor's yard. The officers called out to him, and he came down the internal stairs and was arrested. The search found a cabinet with a bag containing four full M-16 magazines, six empty magazines, four attached magazines, weapon parts (grip, stock, sight) and hundreds of 5.56mm bullets. The prosecution attributes to him offenses of possession of a weapon, carrying a weapon, conducting a weapon deal, obstruction of investigative proceedings and interfering with an officer.
