"We must close the High Court and transfer its powers": Judge Stein sparked Milwicki's wrath

MK Hanoch Milwicki (Likud) called for closing the High Court of Justice and transferring its powers to a constitutional court, after Judge Alex Stein froze the transfer of the budget approved by the Finance Committee. Milwicki said the Knesset would elect judges and the High Court would remain an appellate instance. He also defended his remarks against activists of 'Standing Together' and referred to the Likud primaries.

MK Hanoch Milwicki (Likud) called for closing the High Court of Justice and transferring its powers to a constitutional court, after Judge Alex Stein froze the transfer of the budget approved by the Finance Committee. In an interview with 103FM, Milwicki said that the way of legislating basic laws should be anchored in a basic law, a constitutional court should be established where the Knesset elects the judges, and the High Court should be closed. The Supreme Court would remain an appellate instance for criminal and civil cases only. He added that the public is losing trust in the enforcement and judicial system, and this should be fixed by establishing this vital institution. Later, he responded to the outburst of 'Standing Together' activists in the Finance Committee, calling them 'anarchists' and claiming they are acting against him. He admitted that the use of the term 'Nukh'bot' was unsuccessful, but did not retract the criticism. Regarding his political future, he said he is busy with the Likud primaries, and warned the center-right public not to be tempted by offers in the field, pointing to Naftali Bennett as an example. He supported the decision of the institutions to grant eight slots to the Prime Minister.
