Azerbaijan has filed a defamation lawsuit against CNN in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. The lawsuit, registered under case number 26-cv-1043, was filed on August 18. The cause was a CNN publication from June 5, which, citing unnamed sources, claimed that Israel allegedly used Azerbaijani territory for intelligence and military operations against Iran. The article mentioned the deployment of Israeli special forces and intelligence personnel in southern Azerbaijan, as well as a possible connection between these facilities and a strike that killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps member Rahman Mogaddam. CNN did not claim that official Azerbaijani authorities consented to such operations. Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately stated after the article's release that the information was baseless. The lawsuit emphasizes that the information published by CNN constitutes specific factual claims, not subjective value judgments. Previously, "Kursor" reported that Israel's decision to recognize the Armenian genocide caused a sharp reaction in Azerbaijan and led to a deterioration in relations between Baku and Jerusalem.
