'We bow our heads in memory': Herzog marks 25th anniversary of September 11 attack on Twin Towers

President Isaac Herzog marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a video message from Jerusalem's 9/11 Living Memorial, praising first responders and reaffirming Israel's alliance with the United States against terrorism. Former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and opposition leader Yair Lapid also issued statements. A separate ceremony was held by the US embassy and KKL-JNF.

President Isaac Herzog marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the Twin Towers with a video message recorded at Jerusalem's 9/11 Living Memorial. In the video, posted on X/Twitter, he said: 'We bow our heads in memory of the thousands who were murdered on that dark day in New York, at the Pentagon, and in the fields of Pennsylvania.' He praised the courage of first responders and New York citizens who assisted in the aftermath. Herzog also called out the continued fight against international terror, stating that 'here in Israel, we understand this deadly challenge all too well' and that 'Israel will always stand with America, our greatest ally and friend.' Former prime minister Naftali Bennett wrote that the terrorists 'failed' to break America's spirit, and opposition leader Yair Lapid said 'the entire world changed forever.' On Thursday, the US embassy, KKL-JNF, and JNF-USA held a separate ceremony at the same memorial, which is the only one outside the United States to bear the names of all victims and incorporate a fragment of the Twin Towers. US Ambassador Mike Huckabee said the memorial is 'a testimony to our enduring solidarity and shared resolve to confront terrorism.'
