Washington State in Flames: Wildfires Destroy Homes, Evacuations Underway

Massive wildfires are raging in eastern Washington State, destroying about 600 structures. Authorities have ordered evacuations for five thousand households, with the brunt of the disaster hitting the outskirts of Spokane. In eastern Washington State, large uncontrolled wildfires have destroyed approximately 600 residential homes, commercial properties, and other structures. Due to the rapid spread of the fire, authorities have ordered evacuations for five thousand households. The main impact has been on the outskirts of Spokane, the state's second-largest city, where flames have already scorched over 21 square kilometers. The critical situation around Spokane is exacerbated by three major fire fronts: Old Trails, Fairview, and Meadowview. Local authorities have quickly set up a large temporary shelter for evacuees at the city's convention center. Meanwhile, a special air quality alert has been issued due to thick smoke and high pollution levels. Additional problems include widespread power outages: the utility company Avista has cut electricity to about 60,000 people to prevent new fires and ensure safety. In response to the critical situation, Governor Bob Ferguson has declared a state of emergency and imposed a total ban on open fires. The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a high-danger warning. Despite moderate temperatures not exceeding 27 degrees Celsius, the main destructive factor remains gusty winds with speeds up to 72 kilometers per hour, which hinder firefighting and cause rapid fire spread. To bolster local emergency services, a specialized federal response team from California has arrived in the region.
