Used an electric scooter: serious indictment against Rishon LeZion resident

An indictment was filed against Ofek Barooks, a resident of Rishon LeZion, for throwing a fragmentation grenade at a residential building on Shalom Aleichem Street in the city, in exchange for 20,000 shekels. According to the indictment, Barooks rode an electric scooter and threw the grenade at the house, where six people were present, including three minors. The grenade exploded, causing extensive damage, but miraculously no one was injured. Barooks fled, was arrested, confessed to the act, and is charged with several serious offenses.

According to the indictment, Barooks conspired with another person, who has not yet been caught and whose identity is unknown, to throw the grenade in exchange for a payment of 20,000 shekels. On 03.07.2026 at 02:34, Barooks rode an electric scooter to the house, carrying hand grenade number 26, an explosive fragmentation grenade capable of killing. At around 2:56, he threw the grenade at the house while six people were inside, including three minors, some of whom were sleeping. The grenade exploded at the front of the house, causing extensive damage to the yard, including shattering windows, exploding gas canisters, and damaging furniture, electrical appliances, and a motorcycle parked there. Miraculously, no one was injured. Afterwards, Barooks fled the scene and threw his clothes into a trash can on another street in the city. He is charged with carrying and transporting a weapon without a license, intentional damage to property with an explosive substance while a person is present, reckless endangerment of human life, tampering with evidence, damage by explosives, and obstruction of justice. During his police investigation, he confessed and provided many details, including his travel route, the location of the grenade and clothes, and his hand injury caused by difficulty in pulling the pin.
