Footage circulated last night (between Saturday and Sunday) from Umm al-Fahm shows an unusual raid by large police forces on a wedding in the city. The officers threw stun grenades, ordered participants to lie on the floor, and conducted searches, but according to those present, they eventually left without making arrests. In response, police explained that there was 'suspicion of weapons use during a wedding.' Wedding participants expressed bewilderment at the police raid, claiming there was no shooting or other 'illegal acts' at the venue. The footage shows guests lying on the floor as officers move among them, with chairs overturned. The groom's father, Mustafa al-Af'an, said: 'We were celebrating our son's joy, everyone was happy, we danced and sang. Suddenly police forces burst in and threw grenades. They ordered everyone to lie on the ground, without speaking, and then conducted searches. In addition, they broke chairs and spoke in a manner that was out of place. There was no shooting or any illegal act, but they chose to ruin the joy.' He accused: 'Apparently the police were in the neighborhood, and when they saw it was 11 PM and there was no shooting or anything similar, they decided to ruin the joy. What fault are the chairs and the hookah that they had to be broken? They even confiscated a hookah. If I had known their visit would be like this, I would have given it to them as a gift. They did not respect young people, nor adults, nor children.' Al-Af'an wondered: 'What do they want from us? Everyone is looking for a bit of happiness and calm. Enough with the pressure and the situation in Arab communities, with murders and shootings. It's time we could breathe at weddings and joyful events, instead of being at a murder scene.' Police stated: 'The activity documented in the video was carried out following suspicion of weapons use during a wedding; accordingly, police and fighters operated at the scene to check the suspicions and locate weapons. The Israel Police will continue to act resolutely and uncompromisingly against the phenomenon of shooting at weddings.'
