Unusual chase in Netivot: Tried to flee and hit a policewoman with a motorcycle

A 23-year-old motorcyclist drove recklessly in Netivot last Thursday, performing a dangerous overtaking maneuver on the shoulder and nearly colliding with a car. He then began following the vehicle, claiming the driver endangered his life. The driver drove to his sister's home—a police officer with the Israel Police—and stopped near her house. The motorcyclist arrived and began shouting at the driver, threatening him and bystanders. The policewoman came out, identified herself as an officer, and ordered him to turn off the engine. He ignored her instructions, and she declared him under arrest. With the engine running, she placed her hands on the motorcycle's handlebars. The rider revved the engine, kicked the officer, and attempted to flee, causing the motorcycle to strike her forcefully. She fell, was injured, evacuated to Soroka Medical Center, hospitalized, and underwent surgery. At a hearing in the Be'er Sheva Magistrate's Court, his defense attorney, Adv. Almkawi, argued that the officer was not in uniform and that the suspect sought to escape a crowd that had gathered. Judge Ben David ruled there was reasonable suspicion, risk of obstruction of justice, and danger, extending the remand by four days. The allegations include reckless driving, assaulting a police officer, threats, and assaulting officers during arrest.
