Uniform of a hero: Ray, 5, who survived the Beit Shemesh attack, fulfills a dream

About a month after the murder of his cousin Hillel Mordechai Dadon in Beit Shemesh, 5-year-old Ray, who was seriously injured in the incident, fulfilled a dream and became a police officer for a day. He wore specially tailored uniforms, went on a patrol in a police car, met a police horse, spoke with the district commander, and received honorary ranks in a moving ceremony.

About a month after the shocking murder in Beit Shemesh, where 7-year-old Hillel Mordechai Dadon was stabbed to death and his 5-year-old cousin Ray was seriously injured, Ray experienced a moment of light and hope. The boy arrived at the offices of the Jerusalem District Central Unit (YMR) and fulfilled a dream – to become a full-fledged police officer for a day. He put on specially tailored uniforms, went on a patrol in a "wishmobile" with flashing lights, met a police horse and even rode it. He later spoke with the district commander, Superintendent Avshalom Peled, and in a moving ceremony received official police ranks awarded to him by the officer in charge of the investigation. Chief Inspector Guy Avrahami, deputy commander of the interrogation division in YMR who accompanies the family, said: "This child went through unimaginable trauma. Seeing him today standing on his feet, walking, functioning, and smiling – it's moving on levels that are hard to describe." Ray's mother, Linoy, noted excitedly that her son's smile in the uniform gives the family air to breathe and strength to continue. The difficult incident occurred when a suspect attacked the two children with a knife while they were playing in the yard. Hillel was evacuated to the hospital without signs of life, and Ray was evacuated in serious condition and hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem. The police arrested the suspect and investigative actions are being completed toward filing an indictment.
