Ukraine, Israel ‘fighting against same axis of evil,’ Ukrainian ambassador tells ‘Post’ - interview

Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk told The Jerusalem Post ahead of Ukraine's 35th Independence Day that Israel and Ukraine are fighting against the same axis of evil, with both facing existential threats from Iran and Russia. He noted that Iranian-made drones strike both countries and that Ukraine has brought the war to Russia, destroying 40% of its refineries.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk told The Jerusalem Post ahead of Ukraine's 35th Independence Day on August 24 that Israel and Ukraine are fighting against the same axis of evil. He compared Ukraine's existential fight against Russia to Israel's struggle against its enemies, citing Iranian-made drones that strike both countries. Korniychuk noted that Ukraine has brought the war to Russia for the first time, destroying 40% of Russian refineries with Ukrainian-made missiles and drones, causing fuel shortages. He said Ukraine is producing its own cruise and ballistic missiles and expects to develop anti-ballistic systems within six to nine months. He expressed confidence in victory but said a stable ceasefire is possible, not a long-term peace agreement. He also discussed Jewish ties, including the expected influx of 40,000 pilgrims to Uman for Rosh Hashanah and the upcoming 85th anniversary commemoration of the Babi Yar massacre. He thanked Israel for its support, citing polls showing over 85% of Israelis support Ukraine.
