Ukraine and Israel are fighting different wars, but face the same dangerous reality - opinion
Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk argues that while Ukraine and Israel face distinct enemies, both confront interconnected security threats from authoritarian states using drones, missiles, and hybrid warfare. He calls for deeper practical cooperation between democracies on air defense, drone detection, and civilian protection, warning that aggression in one region emboldens adversaries elsewhere.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Israel Yevgen Korniychuk writes that while Ukraine and Israel are fighting different wars against different enemies, both face the same dangerous reality of interconnected security threats from authoritarian states. He notes that Iranian-designed Shahed drones, once associated with one regional conflict, have become a symbol of Russia's campaign against Ukraine, while North Korean missiles are now being used in Russia's war. Korniychuk argues that military technology, knowledge, and capabilities can move between theaters of conflict, warning that a weapon tested against Ukrainian civilians today may influence another battlefield tomorrow. He calls for deeper practical cooperation between democracies on air defense, drone detection, protection of critical infrastructure, emergency medicine, cyber defense, and civilian resilience. The ambassador emphasizes that democracies cannot afford to confront interconnected threats as if every war exists in isolation, and that international cooperation cannot begin only after missiles are launched. He writes that for Ukrainians, independence means the right to determine their own future, and that sustainable peace must provide security and ensure that aggression is not rewarded.
