UK issues brochure for migrants: "Rape is prohibited here"
The UK Home Office has released an online brochure for asylum seekers explaining behavioral norms, including the prohibition of rape and sexual assault, even against wives and children. The 9-page guide also covers laws on age of consent, respect for women, and the ban on controlling family members. The initiative aims to prevent violations being excused by "cultural differences."
The UK Home Office has released an online brochure for asylum seekers explaining prohibited behaviors in the country. Specifically, migrants are informed that rape and sexual assault, including against their own wives and children, are criminal offenses. The 9-page guide is titled "Understanding Behavioral Norms and Requirements in the UK: A Guide for Asylum Seekers." It explains that sexual relations with persons under 16 are prohibited, women should be treated with the same respect as men, and women are allowed to earn their own income and make independent decisions. Sexual remarks, catcalling, stalking, rude gestures, and verbal abuse based on gender, religion, or appearance are banned. It is also forbidden to control family members' clothing, movements, or decisions without their consent. Violating the law may lead to police intervention, loss of housing or social benefits, and negatively affect asylum status. The initiative aims to ensure ignorance of the law is not used as an excuse. In 2025, approximately 101,000 asylum applications were submitted in the UK, and 46,000 migrants entered illegally. The opposition criticized the brochure: Conservative Chris Philp called for deporting migrants, and Reform UK representative Zia Yusuf called it a "disgrace."
