Two traps for Israel in Syria: a professor's warning

Professor Amitzia Baram warns of two traps for Israel in Syria: Turkey's strengthening, which could lead to the creation of Syrian air defenses and drones, and the need for an agreement with Damascus. He calls for a combination of military force and diplomacy, protection of the Druze, and the creation of mutual dependence with Syria.

Professor Amitzia Baram, a strategy and Middle East expert from the University of Haifa, warns of two traps for Israel in Syria. The first is Turkey's strengthening, which could lead to the creation of a modern air defense system and drones for Syria, blocking the route of the Israeli Air Force for strikes on Iran. The second is the need for a security agreement with Damascus, which should include cooperation against Iran and Hezbollah, as well as protection of the Druze. Baram calls on Israel to abandon an exclusively forceful approach and work with the Syrians on a carrot-and-stick principle, offering economic interdependence, including water and gas supplies. He believes a direct military conflict with Turkey is unlikely, but the threat is real.
