The storming comes amid difficult detention and humanitarian conditions inside Janot prison, particularly for prisoners from the Gaza Strip, where the Prisoners Affairs Authority has previously documented deteriorating living conditions, including a lack of clothing and blankets, restrictions on the use of washing machines, poor healthcare, in addition to repeated stormings and assaults. Human rights reports indicate an escalation in the use of repression units inside occupation prisons this year. According to the latest data as of the end of August 2026, more than 9,400 Palestinian prisoners and detainees are held in occupation prisons, including about 370 children and 88 female prisoners, while the number of administrative detainees stands at 3,198.
