Two Israeli universities rank among top 30 global producers of AI talent, startups

Two Israeli universities, the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Tel Aviv University, have been ranked among the world's top 30 institutions for producing AI talent, research, and startups. The Technion placed 25th and Tel Aviv University 28th in the AI Production Capacity index of 50 academic institutions, compiled by US-based AI communications firm 5W. The top three were Stanford, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon. The index is based on six equally weighted categories: research output, AI programs, startup creation, computing infrastructure, and links to frontier AI companies. The report attributes the Israeli universities' performance to close collaboration between academia, industry, and the country's tech ecosystem, including ties to Nvidia's Israeli R&D, Intel's operations, and IDF Unit 8200. In the AI entrepreneurship category, the Technion ranked 8th globally, outperforming some Ivy League schools. The report notes that compute infrastructure is a structural constraint for Israel. Overall, US universities accounted for 25 of the 50 top institutions.
