Turkish national charged by US for funding Hamas using sham humanitarian charity

The US Department of Justice charged Turkish national Mohammad Yousef Hasna with conspiring to provide material support to Hamas through a sham humanitarian charity. Hasna was arrested in the UK and ordered detained pending extradition. The DOJ alleges he coordinated with senior Hamas terrorist Ghazi Hamad since at least 2023, arranging cash deliveries and transporting supplies to Gaza. The Sham Charity's income nearly doubled from $41.8 million in 2023 to about $81.56 million in 2024. Hasna faces up to 20 years per charge.

The US Department of Justice charged Turkish national Mohammad Yousef Hasna with conspiring to provide material support to Hamas under the guise of humanitarian fundraising. Hasna, also known as Orhan Korkmaz and Abu al-Baraa, was arrested in the UK, where he allegedly served as global director of a registered charity, and ordered detained pending extradition to the US. According to the DOJ complaint, Hasna provided financing and commodities to Hamas through a sham charity and worked closely with senior Hamas terrorist Ghazi Hamad. Since at least 2023, he coordinated with Hamad, arranging cash deliveries, procuring supplies for Gaza, and transporting materials from Egypt. The FBI's Jarod Brown stated Hasna knew resources went to Hamas, not needy non-combatants. Following the October 7 massacre, the Sham Charity's gross income nearly doubled from $41.8 million in 2023 to about $81.56 million in 2024, and it reported spending about $91 million in fiscal 2025. Hasna faces up to 20 years per charge. The investigation was aided by UK law enforcement and the Shin Bet.
