State-owned company NTA has announced the start of preliminary selection of participants for large-scale tenders of the Infra 2 series, focused on creating the intelligent "filling" of the future underground network of the Tel Aviv metropolis. The total cost of the project is estimated at about 175 billion shekels. The Infra 1 stage, worth about 65 billion shekels, covers tunneling and station construction, while the new stage is aimed at procuring rolling stock, signaling systems, power supply, and maintenance. A key feature is fully automatic driverless trains of the GoA4 standard, capable of running at intervals of one and a half minutes during peak hours. This will eliminate the need to hire about a thousand drivers and reduce annual operating costs by about 150 million shekels. Tender participants are required to include an Israeli cybersecurity company in their composition. The network will combine three lines (M1, M2, M3) with a length of about 150 kilometers, 109 stations in 24 municipalities from Rehovot to Kfar Saba and Ben Gurion Airport. The system is designed for more than 600 million passenger trips per year. The driverless configuration creates the possibility of operation on weekends and holidays, but the final decision will remain with the political leadership. Commercial launch is expected between 2037 and 2045.
