Tragedy in Lod: 5-year-old forgotten in car for about two hours - death determined at hospital

A 5-year-old boy died today in Lod after allegedly being forgotten in the family car for about two hours. He was found unconscious with signs of heatstroke. MDA teams performed resuscitation and evacuated him to Shamir-Asaf Harofeh Hospital, where his death was determined. Police are investigating the circumstances. According to Beterem organization, between 2021 and 2025, 23 children died in similar cases.

A 5-year-old boy died today (Sunday) in Lod after allegedly being forgotten in the family car for about two hours. The boy was found in the car unconscious and suffering from signs of heatstroke. MDA teams performed advanced resuscitation and evacuated him in critical condition to Shamir-Asaf Harofeh Hospital, where doctors were forced to determine his death. From initial details, it appears that the family returned home, and during the ride the boy fell asleep. According to suspicion, the family left the car while the boy remained inside. After about two hours, the father noticed his son was not at home, returned to the car, found him unconscious, and called MDA. Lod police officers from the Shfela district arrived at the scene and opened an investigation into the circumstances of the boy's death. MDA paramedic Efi Rosenblum, who was the first to arrive, said the boy was very hot to the touch and immediately began resuscitation. Other paramedics described the boy as having no pulse and no breathing. The case joins a series of incidents where children were forgotten or trapped in vehicles. According to Beterem organization data, between 2021 and 2025, 23 children died in such cases, 53 were injured and survived, and in 1,513 cases children were rescued in time.
