Tragedy at Keshet Cave: 16-year-old boy killed after falling during rappelling

A 16-year-old boy was killed this evening after falling from a great height during rappelling near Keshet Cave in the Western Galilee. MDA teams were called to the scene and rappelled down to him, but were forced to pronounce his death. The incident joins two other child deaths today: a 12-year-old drowned in the Jordan River and a 5-year-old died after being left in a car in Lod.

A 16-year-old boy was killed this evening (Sunday) after falling from a great height during rappelling near Keshet Cave in the Western Galilee. At 18:10, a report was received at MDA's 101 emergency hotline in the Asher region. MDA teams, including paramedics from the rescue unit, rappelled down to him due to the terrain conditions. They found him unconscious, without a pulse and without breathing, with severe multi-system trauma. Despite advanced resuscitation efforts, his death was determined at the scene. Paramedics Mimon Gabai and Ligal Dror described the treatment provided. His death joins two other child deaths on the same day: a 12-year-old boy drowned in the Jordan River near Yesud HaMa'ala, and a 5-year-old boy died after being left in a car in Lod, apparently by his father. The police opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident in Lod.
