Netivei Israel has deployed about 170 AI-based adaptive traffic lights on intercity roads. Data from about 25 junctions shows an average saving of about 25 seconds per vehicle and about 400 vehicle-hours per day at each junction. The company estimates that once deployment is complete, drivers will save about ten minutes per trip, which is about two weeks of workdays a year. The system was developed with ITC and is advancing toward adaptive traffic corridor management.
Netivei Israel has deployed about 170 adaptive traffic lights based on artificial intelligence on intercity roads, aiming to tackle heavy traffic congestion during peak hours. Data collected from about 25 junctions shows that at each junction, an average of about 400 vehicle-hours per day are saved, and about 25 seconds per vehicle. At the Fordis junction, savings are estimated at about 800 vehicle-hours per day, and at the entrance junction to Kiryat Tivon, a reduction of up to about 56 seconds in crossing time per vehicle was measured. The system uses cameras and computer vision to analyze demand and queue lengths, adjusting traffic light timings in real time. The company estimates that once deployment is complete, drivers will save about ten minutes per trip, which is about two weeks of workdays a year. However, the system cannot prevent heavy congestion on routes such as Highway 4, Highway 1, and Highway 471 West, due to capacity limitations. Long-term solutions include adding lanes and developing public transportation. The next phase is adaptive traffic corridor management, where traffic lights share information with each other. The technology will only be installed on intercity roads.
