Breslavsky said: "I have no problem with gays, I have a problem with 'toy rabbis' who disrespect our Torah like this. They take something pure and turn it into a business." He added that "Moses our teacher would be ashamed of what's happening here - not because of the gays, but because of this pathetic 'rabbi' and his actions. Give honor to the Torah." Rabbi Polisuk, a graduate of the "Merkaz HaRav" yeshiva and an openly gay man, responded to the storm: "It hurts very much that you chose to use such words towards me. To say that I act out of disrespect for the Torah and to imply that I do it for money, when I dedicate my soul to the Torah and live in financial modesty, is simply shameful." The controversy raises questions about the boundaries of rabbinic rulings on LGBTQ topics and the place of rabbis who identify as gay in the religious establishment.
