Dr. Dima Amin, a 55-year-old physician from Ramallah, was arrested at her home on Tuesday morning by Israeli forces on suspicion of incitement, harming security, and supporting a hostile organization, after publishing over a hundred Facebook posts. The arrest involved a violent break-in into the apartment, breaking doors and damaging property, according to testimonies from family members and neighbors. Her family could not locate her for about 30 hours and did not know where she was being held. During the arrest she suffered a cardiac event, was transferred to a hospital in Jerusalem, and underwent catheterization. Despite her medical condition, her detention was extended by five days at the Ofer military court, and she is being held at the Russian Compound in Jerusalem. In the hearing, her lawyer argued that during her transfer she was tightly handcuffed and marks of the handcuffs were visible on her wrists. B'Tselem says this case joins many testimonies about the detention conditions of Palestinians, including physical violence, humiliations, denial of medical treatment, and inhumane living conditions. According to B'Tselem, at least 90 Palestinian detainees and prisoners have died since October 2023. B'Tselem's executive director, Yuli Novak, said that Dr. Amin is one of over 9,300 Palestinians held in the Israeli detention system, and that the story illustrates the cruelty of the system.
